Welcome to the Popley Matters website my name is Jane Frankum and I am the Editor and I have been for nearly ten years now. I am on the committees of Popley Forum and Popley Partnerships. I am also a Basingstoke and Deane Councillor and Hampshire County Councillor for Basingstoke North which covers all of Popley and most of Norden (Oakridge).

I was first elected as a Councillor in 1998 after getting so frustrated with the lack of improvements in Popley and the reports in the media that always seemed to be reporting in what I believed was a biased way against Popley.

In my roll as a Hampshire County Councillor I represent Norden and all of Popley. I am the Labour Party spokesperson for,  Children's and Adult services in Hampshire. I also serve on the Family Placement Panel and HOIRST (which is a panel that gives grants to help the children who have been either in or have left foster care. The grants are to help them with their further education or vocational costs that will lead to their employment. I also serve on the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority which takes me all over the county for meetings.

I have a great interest in public transport having been fighting for a better bus service and to keep the vital part of the number 5 route that loops around Basingstoke Hospital officially called The North Hampshire Hospital where I worked on the children's ward for 28 years, back when they were still building the "Maxi" and "Mini" hospital. As disabled person I have got an interest is Disability Issues. For many years I was a school governor at Merton Infant and Merton Junior School's.

I get little time for hobbies as I have Community Drop In and Advice Surgeries in St Gabriel's Church Hall on first Saturday of the month 1-2pm and Oakridge Hall For All on the first Thursday of the month 6-7pm and The Church Hall in Oakridge on the third Saturday of the month 12-1pm.

When I do get a bit of time I like to go on the internet among my favourite sites  are Friends Reunited, EBay and Genes Reunited tracing back my relatives I have found old school friends from nearly 50 years ago and traced family that I didn't know existed on my husbands side and even been lucky enough to meet some of them.
